Hare Krishna Ashram

The Hare Krishna Ashram was started in 2005 by the followers of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder Acharya of the Hare Krishna Movement. It is 5km from the Vizianagaram town in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Following the political upheaval surrounding Telangana demanding a separate state, Vizianagaram was often affected by severe power cuts that increased risks of crop failure. This prompted Shrikanth Ji, Guru of the Ashram, to opt for solar powered solutions for the Ashram’s mango grove.

The Ashram approached Sunlit Future to help it become an example of sustainability by using solar energy. The idea was to have a solar pump installed to bring water from a bore well for agriculture and use the water for 5 acres of mango plantation, which they could not earlier irrigate due to high operational costs of the conventional electric pump. Sunlit Future offered to do the installation pro bono as their contribution towards materialising Swami ji’s cause.

The installation has exposed the neighbouring farmers to the reliable, affordable and robust solar water pumping solution. They visit the Ashram daily to enquire about the development.
